You get what you pay for

by encabronado

Wow! The YMCA definitely beats this location. You're better off going to the Pellicano or West location.

Formerly Gold's Gym, this low-budget gym has only two bench press machines!!! During peak hours, you're better off going home to work out.

Despite its lame "No critics" moniker, cheap muscle heads frequent the place, too many teens, and unprofessional, unfriendly staff-especially the lesbian working the counter.

If you want to pay only 10 dollars for slop, go right ahead and get ready for the most dismal gym experience you'll ever encounter.

  • Pros: Good hours,
  • Cons: Crowded, unfriendly staff, cheap people, cheap place

Beware of This Place

by ms_hookdrv

I joined Powerhouse gym in February of 2007 and thought the gym was wonderful. Three months later without any notice to their members they changed their name and basically screwed all of their members. What started as an "upscale gym" has now turned into a low budget gym. They did away with all of their fitness classes, daycare, sauna, towel service, etc and began offering memberships for $10 a month. They basically told their current clients that they could either pay $100 to get out of their contract with Powerhouse and sign up with Planet Fitness or they could repay the enrollment fee and start paying the new fee and join Planet Fitness. They basically told their clients to make an appointment to make the transition and until then continued to charge the old rate. I just find it hard to trust an establishment with my bank account or credit card number when they make such drastic changes and basically do so without any warning to their members.

  • Pros: Nice facility and now very cheap fees.
  • Cons: Dishonest, shady owner. Can not be trusted.

I'm impressed

I left another club to join Powerhouse and I don't regret it one bit. Everyone at Powerhouse East is nice, caring, and it is so clean. It's an older club, but there is constant maintenance and improvement. The classes are the best! I've told all my friends and co-workers about it and even though it's more expensive than other places, the results and wonderful environment make it worth every penny.

  • Pros: Staff, Classes, Service
  • Cons: Parking
